3 Keys to Motivating Your Employees

Employee motivation written in a note.

One of the key things you can do as a small business owner is to make sure you are doing all you can to motivate employees.

That said do you feel as if you are doing everything within your power to motivate your workers to do the best they can?

If you said no, now would be a good time to work on some more motivation efforts.

How Happy Are Your Workers?

In looking to do everything you can to motivate your team, here are three areas to hone in on:

  1. Hiring the right people – Those you hire will go a long way in determining how successful you will be over time. So, do you feel like you’ve been hiring the best and brightest more times than not? If not enough time on sound interviews, background searches and more, you can miss good hires. Take the time to invest in the hiring process. When you do, you will oftentimes get the right people for the right positions.
  2. Provide incentives beyond salary – It is also wise to provide incentives to employees. That said have you been doing such when it is appropriate? An example of this would be if you have a sales team on hand. If you do, it is smart to have commissions set up. When you do, some or many of your sales team members will have incentives to make as many sales as possible. When they do, this can raise your revenue. To make sure the right sales people get the commissions, be sure you can accurately track such things. Having sales commission software is a good way to go about that. Such software means you can track who is making the sales and where the commissions should go. Now, could there be anything easier than that? You also may look to incentives such as the opportunity to move up within the company. Having that as an incentive over time can push some of your employees to work even harder than they do now.
  3. Growth beyond your company – You do not want a revolving door at your company. That said it stands to reason some workers will move on after a period of time. This often is the result of having a chance to grow in another position with another employer. So, motivating your employees now could lead to good things for them down the road. That is whether it is with your small business or another company. As much as you may want to keep some of these individuals, there is only so much you can do at the end of the day to do so.

In looking at doing all you have to as an owner, motivating your employees should be one of your priorities.

The more you do for your business, the better chance you have of it being around for many years to come.

With that thought in your head, do all you can to get the most and best out of those you employ.
