Summer is upon us and it is time to pack away those winter coats and look forward to creating the perfect summer wardrobe. This summer really is an anything goes year, from bright bold florals to colour pop clutch bags, there is something to satisfy everyone. Summer is the time of year when we need our fashion choices to be as versatile as our diaries, with holidays, garden parties and work wear all to be thought about. It can certainly be confusing, so here is your guide for dressing to impress this summer.
The Floral 50’s Dress
The 50’s summer dress is back and I, for one, am so thankful for this. Floral 50’s dresses are perfect for hiding those problem areas such as hips and waist. They skim your hips and cinch in your waist, creating the ultimate hourglass silhouette – which is what we all want isn’t it?
The dress from Myleene Klass’s collection for Littlewoods Ireland, is the epitome of 50’s style dress that will work for multiple occasions. Perfect for a summer wedding styled with a sky high pair of wedges and a plain clutch bag, you will be the belle of the reception afterwards. Or, if you are looking for a smart/casual workwear outfit, team with a plain pair of ballet flats and some chunky bangles, you will look smart but relaxed enough for drinks at the bar after work. A great styling tip for this dress would be to get a selection of skinny belts in a variety of colours. This will create a new look for the dress on every occasion you wear it.
The Colour Block Midi Dress
Midi dresses have been in focus for a while and they are the perfect way to cover up on cool summer evenings whilst staying stylish throughout the day. Be aware though, that if like me you are on the shorter side, you will need to wear a midi dress with killer heels to elongate you.
There are many styles of midi dresses from Littlewoods Ireland for 2013, but block color and ombre versions are by far the stand out for this summer. This version from Love label is a winner, with it’s fun cutouts and figure hugging cut this will work perfectly for festival season or as a beach to bar cover-up dress. The fun part about a block colour pop dress is that they can be styled in so many ways.
Wear this with hundreds of bangles, necklaces of different lengths, a sun hat and a denim jacket for a boho festival chic look. The stretch in this dress will make it easy to move in and will keep you cool after a long days dancing. Then, when you have had enough of the beach, simply slip this over your bikini, throw on an oversized straw hat and sunnies and you will look effortlessly classic sipping a Pina Colada by the pool. Whatever look you choose with this versatile dress, chunky, 1970’s style wedges and a fringed handbag are definitely the key!
